RMIT on Tuesday unveiled its partnership with Airwallex, Xero and BlueRock on a new graduate certificate of accounting advisory and tech, to help accounting professionals better position themselves in the face of the ongoing technological disruption faced by the industry.
“As technology continues to evolve, almost every accountant will see the ever-growing impact on their day-to-day tasks, making the case for a need to implement upskilling programs within organisations to work towards maintaining their current workforce,” said Helen Souness, CEO of RMIT Online.
“We’re thrilled to be partnering with such strong industry leaders to offer this program to accounting professionals across Australia who are facing an increased need to upskill to expand their practices outside of traditional accounting services.”
The nine-month course promises to cover technologies adopted by the industry in recent years, including blockchain, artificial intelligence and machine learning, as well as Single Touch Payroll and other automation technologies, and enable participants to fulfil CPD point requirements across the three professional accounting bodies.
Segmented into four parts, the program will lead accountants through emerging technology in accounting, financial analytics, visualisation and insights, and strategic advisory for accounting, and will be available to undertake online, Australia-wide.
The announcement follows calls for accounting syllabi taught across the country to be adapted to changes seen across the accounting environment in recent years, along with a recent push from the federal government to mandate e-invoicing.
“The accounting industry has been riding a wave of digitisation for some years now, particularly as governments around the world digitise aspects of compliance and as small businesses move to complete digital systems of record,” said Jared Baker, director of sales at Xero.
“By partnering with RMIT Online, we’re looking to continue our support of industry professionals embracing new technologies.”
Mr Baker’s enthusiasm for better upskilling of accountants was shared by Airwallex’s VP, global head of SME, Neil Luo, who said the partnership will help accountants thrive in a “modern digital ecosystem”.
